About Us

My photo
We make intentional lifestyle choices to use the abundance God has given us here in the U.S., so that we can give to those less fortunate than us in 3rd world countries. We want others to see the difference as Jesus, not us. We are all sinners in need of a savior. We are NOTHING without Jesus! Everything we have comes from Him and it is such a blessing to share it!

Kids Club

Our outreach was a week long Kids Club (like VBS) at HOYWIK School in Kibera Slum. (See photos of the school from the previous post). Every day we would leave the First Love Children's Home and drive to the school for a morning and an afternoon session.
The school staff was great to work with:
We did skits (stories from the book of Daniel):
Songs:
Puppets:
Crafts:
And games:
On the last day we presented the school with a donation of balls and gifts for each of the teachers:
Every day this girl, Mildred, would copy the lyrics to each song we taught them into her notebook. On th  last day we asked to see her notebook and we found pages and pages of hymns & praise songs.
We also found this on one page:
Makes it all worth it, knowing we are making an impression and leaving our mark!
More importantly we pray that God is leaving HIS mark on each of this young kid's hearts!

HOYWIK School in Kibera Slum

This is the school where we did our week-long Kids Club.
Some of the classrooms:
(First Love built this school block for the Primary students out of wood & metal sheets--with a budget of $500).
The Secondary students have a brick school block (a "block" is a section of classrooms within a single building. Most schools have several "blocks" for the different grade levels).
One of the classroom "blocks" is an old army tent (where we held Kids Club):
The toilets:
Staff Housing (behind, beside & near the pit latrines):
They keep rabbits to sell the meat to supplement teacher's salaries:
They have a banana tree within the school walls that is producing healthy bananas:
The water rank the supplies water for the school:
The "ally" behind the school:
A peek at Kibera Slum over the school wall (one million people living in one square mile):
Inside the school gate:
Outside the school gate:
(Another school is directly across).

Everything's "a-okay" here in Kibera Slum, Nairobi!

This girl loved the glitter craft we did!
