This is what was inside when we cracked them open:
All the smaller ants are called soldiers. There is 1 male in each case (exactly like the kind we ate for breakfast yesterday). You can see it in the picture below.
One case had 1 HUGE queen:
and the other case had 3 smaller ones (which he said is very rare...a special treat indeed!)
Just for the record, the queen ant Joey ate in Kenya 2 yrs ago was NOTHING like these!!!! That looked more like a grub.The ant is actually still attached and its abdomen is extremely swollen and pulsating & bubbling in all directions! *gag inserted here*
It's very soft & squishy of course and when u cut one open it looks like a raw egg yolk. Anissa actually licked the juice and it truly has no taste...it's just a texture thing. That and the fact that there is a wriggling ant attached to the end!!! She may have been brave enough to taste the insides but she could NEVER do this:
The chewing is not so bad....
...but the swallowing will definitely get you:
