About Us

My photo
We make intentional lifestyle choices to use the abundance God has given us here in the U.S., so that we can give to those less fortunate than us in 3rd world countries. We want others to see the difference as Jesus, not us. We are all sinners in need of a savior. We are NOTHING without Jesus! Everything we have comes from Him and it is such a blessing to share it!

Deaf Technical Institute

Right near the First Love Children's Home in the Karen district of Nairobi is a vocational school for Deaf high school students.  We had driven past it every day on the way to the slum, when we were here 2 years ago, but didn't have time to visit.  This time, we made sure that we stopped by.  They are a residential school that trains Deaf youth in trades such as sewing, hairdressing, electrician, woodworking, building, auto mechanics, cooking, etc.  It is an amazing program that equips & empowers these youth to be successful and obtain the skills needed for employment.
One of the teachers/administrators who gave us a tour. He was hearing, so he taught me some KSL as we went along.

Chatting with some of the students. It was amazing how well we could communicate. A lot of he signs in KSL are the same as in ASL. I had already picked up a lot of new Kenyan signs when I visited DOOR  2 weeks ago, so that really helped too.

2 of the Deaf girls who are in the Cosmotology Program, gave Anissa some royal treatment!

Unfortunately, the costs for attending this school, prohibits many more Deaf from joining.  If any of you are interested in sponsoring one of these amazing Deaf youth, please email me and I can give you more details.  The approximate cost (varies depending on which program) is around $680 per year, which breaks down to only $57/mth.  Please consider giving hope and a future to one of these youth!
