About Us

My photo
We make intentional lifestyle choices to use the abundance God has given us here in the U.S., so that we can give to those less fortunate than us in 3rd world countries. We want others to see the difference as Jesus, not us. We are all sinners in need of a savior. We are NOTHING without Jesus! Everything we have comes from Him and it is such a blessing to share it!

One man's trash is another man's treasure!

It never ceases to amaze us, at how resourceful these kids are!   They will use any bit of trash or scrap of anything they find to create something to play with. One might think "Wow! Those African children are soo full of creativity!  Kids in America just don't use their imaginations!"  But I truly believe that God made all children instinctively creative.  The problem is that we just don't give our children in America the chance to develop their imaginations. Take  away all their toys and all their technology (TV, Wii, video games, etc) and just watch their imaginations explode!

You've already seen how they make balls out of wadded up plastic  bags...
They also make them out of wadded up socks....

Tires are a HUGE hit!
....even with the mazugnu (white) children!

Playing his guitar during worship (a scrap of wood)....

When you don't have knitting needles, just take apart 2 pens.....

A rusty old curling iron that some mazungu left behind becomes a toy gun.....

A broken umbrella becomes a super-hero cape...
Later, it showed up when the little ones were playing house...

Who needs lenses??? Michael is stylin without them!

When we were doing crafts for Kids Club in the slums, they wanted to save all the little scraps of paper that we were trying to throw away. One  boy was playing with a tiny broken piece of mirror.  Even the kids here at the First Love Children's Home who live on this beautiful property with clean running water, electricity, etc, can't be stopped from snooping through your garbage.

The little ones go collecting....

These were my sunglasses that broke and I threw them away.  2 days later, Luchi was wearing them!  That's how it is with almost everything you throw away...it's bound to show up in one form or another, as a repurposed treasure!

Any sort of empty bottle or container are valuable commodities among the children....
These were the tossed away cans from our team's chicken salad sandwiches.....
......(They are perfect for pretend cooking)!
