"Camping" in Africa

Our first-ever attempt at tent camping here didn't pan out.  

We were staying at a small primitive resort on a cliff overlooking the Rift Valley. 

Here's an even higher view where we walked up and can look down on our resort (the thatched roofs):

There was a little foot path right in front of our resort where the local children came to stare at us:

Here was our outdoor eating area where they served delicious meals (the tiny bangs behind it is the kitchen):

They had our tent all set up for us (complete with mosquito nets inside) when all of the sudden a huge storm hit, with high winds, heavy rain & hail. The entire Rift Valley disappeared before our eyes!

One of the tent poles snapped in half and the mattresses and sleeping bags were soaked! 

Fortunately they didn't have any guests staying in the 2 rooms inside so they upgraded us for free! We were soooo grateful for the dry accommodations!
